The democrats may want to pay attention to this, because it illustrates why they have no power in Washington currently. It turns out that all the crazy crap democrats run on and push down our throats is extremely unimportant to the American voting public. Despite their insistence to the contrary, we don’t care about global warming, income inequality, and especially gun control.
Gallup released its year-end poll about the issues Americans thought were the most important for 2106. As a shocker only to liberals, most of us think the economy is the most important thing. The real shocker is that liberal politicians still haven’t figure out that most people rate the economy as the most pressing issue for this country. In every year since Obama took office, Gallup found that jobs and the economy were among the top concerns, yet every democrat runs a campaign based on nonsense social issues.
Speaking of which, the environment, the gap between rich and poor, judicial reform, and gun control all ranked at the bottom of the list. Each of these major Democratic Party platforms earned a measly 2% of support from the American public. Other liberal causes like the minimum wage, abortion, and gay rights were deemed so unimportant that they didn’t even register on the poll.
You may recognize all of these issues as the backbone of Hillary Clinton’s failed presidential campaign. Coincidence? I think not. She ran on all of this stuff and most people in the country don’t care about any of it. They instead were attracted to Donald Trump’s message of improving the economy and creating jobs. Hillary’s only position on the economy was that she wanted to raise taxes and give free stuff to lazy people with the money. She can blame racism, the FBI, and Russia for her loss all she wants, but the fact is people want to work and, for some strange reason, keep most of the money they earn.
Hillary also ran on a promise to enact strict gun control and strip Americans of their Constitutional rights. Not only didn’t gun control rank very high on the things Americans care about, school shootings registered 0% as a concern at all. This flies in the face of democrats like Hillary who insist most Americans, including most gun owners, want more gun control. If only two percent of the country cares about gun control, then it seems unlikely most people would want more of it.
Even more telling is the poll doesn’t ask people if they support or oppose gun control, just whether they think it is an important issue. It’s likely that 1% or less people in this country actually think gun control is even a mild necessity for America.
Once again the economy and jobs are the top two things people in the US care about. Will the democrats learn anything from this? Unlikely. They were the issues that handed the House of Representatives over to the Republicans in 2010. They were the issues that handed the Senate over to Republicans in 2012. They are the issues that put Donald Trump in the White House in 2016. And yet, democrats keep hammering away at silly social issues and waging a ridiculous cultural war.
