When Steven Utash was beaten into a coma by black thugs at the scene of traffic accident for no other reason than he was white, civil rights leaders were outraged at the racism. Actually, that’s not true. The incident was completely ignored because the victim was the wrong color. So let’s expect a similar lack outrage at another Detroit area assault that put an innocent white motorist in the hospital at the hands of angry black attackers.
34-year old Nate Szczerbinski was driving home around 4pm on Detroit’s East Side when he took a wrong turn and found himself going the wrong way on a one way street. Realizing his error, he stopped and attempted to turn around. As he did this, a burgandy van slammed into him almost head on. Szczerbinski got out of his vehicle to make sure everyone was okay.
The occupants of the van were not physically injured, but they were pissed off. Three black men got out of the van and began verbally assaulting Szczerbinski.
“They were like, ‘Did you see what the (expletive) you did?’ ” Szczerbinski said.
Then the verbal assault turned physical.
“And then they proceeded to hit me. All three of them were just hitting me and kicking me, spitting on me and calling me ‘white (expletive),’ ” continued Szczerbinski.
The beating lasted 20 minutes, with the assailants taking breaks to taunt Szczerbinski. They used racial slurs on the motorist and kicked him in the head and ribs as he lay on the ground.
“They were just saying I was lucky that they didn’t kill me, even though after that they kept saying how they wanted to kill me,” he said, adding that he didn’t fight back. “I figured it was best just to take it. There was three of them.”
Szczerbinski is in the hospital awaiting surgery to repair a shattered eye socket.
Police have arrested the 20-year old van driver and are looking for the other two suspects. They told the Detroit Free Press that is up to prosecutors to determine if ethnic intimidations charges will be filed.
Szczerbinski says he just wanted to make sure everyone was okay, but now advises anyone involved in a crash to remain inside the vehicle until authorities arrive. Now that’s an understatement.
This incident happened on Saturday and was reported on Monday. So far Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have yet to issue statements about this egregious case of racial injustice. Expect a statement of outrage in…three…two…one…never.
