The lesson here is, maybe don’t start a fight with a concealed weapons permit holder. A Florida man is now a “morgue man” after he initiated a physical confrontation with another man who was legally carrying a firearm. This is going to send black people off the deep end because the man who died was black and police won’t charge the shooting because of the state’s “stand your ground” law. Florida is weird in they actually give people the right to defend their lives against violent attackers.
Last Thursday in Clearwater, FL 28-year-old Markeis McGlockton pulled into a convenience store parking lot with his girlfriend. He ignored all of the empty normal parking spaces to park his car in a handicap spot. McGlockton entered the store, leaving his girlfriend in the car.
Moments later 47-year-old Michael Drejka pulled up and notice the non-disabled girlfriend sitting in a car with no handicapped placard, in the handicap space. Drejka got out and confronted the girlfriend. In the video he appears to motion to all of the other non-handicap spaces, and police said that the verbal argument was related to the shittiness of people using handicap spots.
Inside the store, McGlockton caught wind that someone was disrespecting his girl so he came storming out. He violently shoved Drejka to the ground and stood over him in a menacing way. Drejka pulled out his legally-owned and licensed handgun and fired one shot into McGlockton’s chest.
McGlockton grabbed his chest and then went running back into the store. He collapsed and died.
As The Tampa Bay Times reports, police have determined that Drejka was well within his rights to defend himself:
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced Friday that his agency will not arrest a man deputies say shot and killed another man during an argument over a handicap parking space.
The incident falls under Florida’s self-defense law known as “stand your ground,” the sheriff said during a news conference. The law gives immunity to those in fear of their lives who use force to defend themselves.
The shooting “is within the bookends of ‘stand your ground’ and within the bookends of force being justified,” the sheriff said, later adding, “I’m not saying I agree with it, but I don’t make that call.”
Of course the entire Black Lives Matter movement was started because of outrage over “stand your ground” in Florida. Black activists mistakenly thought SYG was behind George Zimmerman shooting Trayvon Martin. It was actually a simple case of self-defense as Martin was pounding Zimmerman’s head into the pavement, but that didn’t stop the hated of this law.
The facts that McGlockton was black, unarmed, and shot by what looks to be a white guy (maybe he’s a white Hispanic like Zimmerman) is going to make this case erupt. The leftist activists are going throw a violent fit insisting that black people have a right to physically assault others without getting shot.
Here’s the thing. If McGlockton had simply parked in an appropriate spot, he’d be alive today. Or if he didn’t attack the wrong guy, he’d be wearing flip-flops now instead of a toe tag. Sometimes actions have consequences.
