Hey, remember when they used to name things after great people with even greater accomplishments? Well, those days are gone. A California lawmaker, a democrat of course, wants to name a portion of a Los Angeles freeway after Obama. Why? Is he from Los Angeles? Has he done anything great for the area, or in general? I think the answer is because democrats are crazy and they like to reward mediocrity, or in this case terribleness.
The Los Angeles Times reports that California State Senator Anthony Portantino has drafted a resolution that would name a portion of the 134 freeway, running from Glendale to Eagle Rock, north of LA, as the Barack H. Obama Freeway.
“California has a long history of designating our freeways as reminders of the accomplishments of important leaders who have shown character, strength and passion. President Obama is a laudable person to showcase and for Southern Californians to appreciate,” said Portantino.
Okay, none of that is true. Obama hasn’t shown character, strength, or passion nor is he laudable in any way. As far as I know, the only LA area freeway named after an important leader is the 118 freeway in Simi Valley, which is known as the Ronald Reagan Freeway and there’s a very good reason for that.
Ronald Reagan served in the US Army and was stationed in California. He was an actor in Hollywood and president of the Screen Actor’s Guild. He was a two-term Governor of California. He had a house in Bel Air as well as a ranch in Santa Barbara. His Presidential Library is in Simi Valley. Reagan was not only a great man but also very connected to California and the Los Angeles area.
Part of Obama’s mythology is that he attended Occidental College in Eagle Rock, CA, which is near the 134 freeway the democrats want to name after him. Obama was at Occidental for 3 years before moving to New York. He never even graduated from the school. His connection to Los Angeles is nearly non-existent.
Oh and there there’s the fact that Ronald Reagan was a great president who won the Cold War and defeated the Soviet Union. Obama on the other hand has been a weak president who has accomplished nothing positive.
I think maybe the democrat who put up this resolution is giving Obama credit for being a local because he has come out to LA every month of his presidency to appear on TV shows and rub elbows with Hollywood elitists. Wasting millions of taxpayer dollars so he can stroke his ego and fundraise for the Democratic Party is not a noteworthy accomplishment or a contribution to Los Angeles.
Considering that California is run entirely by democrats I think it’s safe to say this resolution is a done deal and that totally sucks for me because I drive this stretch of freeway all the time. Now I’m going to have to keep from throwing up in mouth a little every time I see the Barack H. Obama Freeway sign.
