One of the many BS liberal narratives about Donald Trump is that the Russians own him and force him to do their bidding. Never mind the fact that the Trump administration has been tougher on the Russians than any previous president since Ronald Reagan, liberal narratives are never based on the truth. One CNN guest is trying desperately to prop up this fact-free storyline by claiming that the Russians had compromised Trump as early as 1984, which would be amazing that they knew 34 years ago he would eventually become President of the United States.
Craig Unger is a lefty reporter who made a career out of trying to connect the Bush family with the royal family of Saudi Arabia. That is so 2001 so now he’s trying to establish a Trump/Russia connection with his new book House of Trump, House of Putin.
Unger went on CNN because of course the fake news network is going to help him promote his anti-Trump conspiracy theories. Unger claims that his book proves that Russians compromised Trump and implanted him in the White House, calling the President a Russian assist, and this this plan started way back in 1984:
“This is really a great intelligence operation, and it started off as a money-laundering operation where a man in the Russian mafia met with Donald Trump in Trump Tower…and he just came in with $6 million and he said, ‘I’ll buy five condos,’” said Unger.
Selling condos is not money laundering, but whatever. Also, the Russian Mafia is different than Russian intelligence or the KGB, but for the purposes of Unger’s fairy tale they are one in the same.
“If you look at it, he’s completely indebted to Russia. They own him,” Unger said.
This just may be that thing where liberals don’t understand how money works. If someone buys a condo from you either that person is indebted or it’s a free exchange if it’s paid in full. There is no debt on the seller’s side of things.
Unger’s next big piece of evidence is that Trump went to Russia (the the Soviet Union) in 1987 and he booked the trip with a Russian travel agency. *gasp* There Unger claims that his sources tell him that Trump “had lots of fun with women” which he says is “kompromat” or compromising information. You know, because nobody has any idea that Trump has an eye for the ladies or anything.
From there it gets more sinister because, as Unger tells it, Trump began his presidential campaign following his 1987 trip to the USSR.
“And when Trump came back here, he immediately started to run for president. He took out full page ads in the New York Times, The Boston Globe, and The Washington Post promoting a foreign policy…that sounds an awful lot like what the Russians wanted,” Unger said.
Unger claims the KGB, the Russian Mafia, the Soviets, the Russians, and whoever else began grooming Trump for the presidency starting in 1984. In order for this fantastic story to have any validity, you’d have to believe that the Russians honestly believed that Trump would one day become President of the United States. In 2000 an episode of The Simpsons predicted Trump’s presidency, but they were joking. How were the Russians so far ahead of everyone else on this?
In the mid-1980’s the Soviet Union was fighting the cold war on a hundred fronts and dealing with the impending collapse of their communist empire. Somehow I doubt they put billions in resources into the idea that a blowhard real estate developer from NY would eventually become president so they could finally exact their revenge against the US.
