Sometimes solutions are so simple it seems stupid that nobody came up with it before. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said if we want to make health care more affordable all we have to do is deport all of the illegal aliens. Of course democrats will hate this plan because they don’t like simple solutions or affordable health care or immigration enforcement or anything that makes sense.
Brooks was on CNN today and actually said he doesn’t like the GOP replacement plan for ObamaCare, calling it a “lump of coal.” When asked if he was concerned by the Congressional Budget Office report that up to 24 million people may not have health insurance under the Republican plan, Brooks dropped some freedom truth:
“I would like to see people voluntarily purchase health insurance in order to minimize their risk of a significant loss because of illness. But this is America. We believe in liberty and we believe in freedom. If you’re going to believe in liberty and freedom than you cannot with a heavy boot of the federal government force people to purchase insurance,” said Brooks.
The Congressman then offered up this easy-to-understand solution to unaffordable health care:
“If you want to get into the affording aspect of it, the best thing we can do in the federal government to ensure people can afford health care is to do things that will help increase wages. And one of the best things to help increase wages for working Americans is to deport the illegal aliens that have flooded the marketplace. Suppressing wages for all Americans and, in addition to that, those illegal aliens have taken job opportunities from American citizens,” Brooks said.
Brooks pointed out that 10-15 million illegal aliens have taken American job opportunities.
‘If you enforce our border security and deport the illegal aliens to create job opportunities for Americans, you also decrease the labor supply which means employers have to pay more to Americans to do the work that needs doing. With that additional income they can better afford health care,” said Brooks.
Rep. Brooks is right on here, but he’s missing a key component. The 11-25 million illegal aliens in this country don’t pay for health insurance or health care in general. They walk into emergency rooms for things like hangnails or the sniffles and then never pay a dime. This drives up the cost of health care immensely, so an added benefit of deporting illegal aliens is that health care as a whole will become more affordable.
Brooks ends with a very appropriate jab at liberals who support open borders and amnesty for illegal aliens.
“We just have to get the ability to push those people out of the way that insist illegal aliens are good for America no matter how much damage they do to struggling American families,” Brooks said.
Good news, the American people have given Congress that ability by turning over control of both chambers as well as the White House to Republicans. The question remains: will the GOP actually use this power?
