A Republican running for state senate in Michigan tried to make an announcement about his candidacy on Facebook and was blocked. Why? As far as anyone can tell it’s because this conservative has conservative views about abortion and gun rights. The social media giant explained that these things are “shocking and disrespectful content.” Considering the disrespect FB shows for free speech, the only thing shocking here is that anyone still uses it.
Here’s a thing that nobody is surprised by from Fox News Insider:
A state senate candidate in Michigan praised federal lawmakers for challenging Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on alleged censorship after his own campaign announcement was blocked.
Aric Nesbitt, of the Grand Rapids area, said he tried to “boost” his online campaign announcement when the social media giant blocked it and sent him a message calling it “shocking and disrespectful material.”
Nesbitt appeared on Tucker Carlson and the host asked him if he knew why Facebook would block his candidacy announcement.
“Still trying to figure that out,” replied Nesbitt.
He said the announcement consisted of his basic policy platform of “limited government,” lower taxes, defending the unborn and protecting the Second Amendment.
Basically FB is saying that promoting small government, pro-life, and pro-2nd Amendment beliefs is a hate crime against all humanity. I don’t doubt that liberals feel this way, but it doesn’t make it right or mean that those are mainstream ideas.
Let’s do a little exercise to illustrate my point. Look at the following statements:
A) I believe the federal government should be limited to the powers assigned by the US Constitution.
B) I believe all human life is precocious.
C) I believe that the Constitution protects the civil liberties of all Americans.
If you are offended by any of those statements, you are an anti-American whacko left wing extremist monster. You have shocking and disrespectful points of view. In blocking this Republicans announcement, Facebook is saying that they believe in an all-powerful federal government, killing babies as a matter of convenience, and a country where the people have no civil rights.
Considering that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg just got raked over the coals by Congress for a variety of offenses, I’d think the last thing they’d want is a big government regulating the hell out of their monopoly. I’d also imagine that they’d like to avoid discrimination and bias lawsuits.
Again, this is not anything conservatives don’t already know. Facebook has been using its algorithms to suppress conservative content and its vague terms of service to straight up block conservative points of view.
I don’t even need access to FB’s analytics or internal memos to prove this. I only need one question: Have you ever heard about a democrat getting blocked for expressing pro-abortion or pro-gun control opinions? If Facebook is blocking liberal ideas as “shocking and disrespectful” than it is at least a fair and consistent platform. If they are not (and they are not), then it is a liberally biased platform. It’s as simple as that.
