CNN isn’t having a very good week reporting the truth. Actually, they aren’t having a very good couple years in this regard. After some serious lies from Lanny Davis and Carl Bernstein, the fake news network told a big lie about democrat Andrew Gillum who is running for governor of Florida. According to CNN hack Chris Cuomo, Gillum is the first black candidate to run for governor of any state despite the fact that there have been plenty of black candidates and even governors.
“History made. First African American nominee for governor in a major state like Florida,” said Cuomo.
Well, Gillum would be the first black person to run for governor if you don’t count all those other black guys who did it:
Tom Bradly (black guy) was the democrat nominee for governor of California in 1982 and 1986. He was the first and only black mayor of Los Angeles, but Cuomo wasn’t talking about that.
Former Pittsburgh Steeler great Lynn Sawnn (also black) ran for Governor of Pennsylvania as the Republican nominee in 2006.
In that same year black guy Ken Blackwell ran for governor of Ohio as the Republican nominee.
On November 9, 1989 democrat Douglas Wilder (black guy) was elected Governor of Virginia, becoming the first actual elected black governor.
Democrat Deval Patrick (another black guy) served 2 terms as Governor of Massachusetts.
There may be more, but that’s at least 5 black men who were nominees for governors, which makes Gillum at best the 6th black person to run for governor. Generally speaking, being the 6th person to do anything isn’t all that note worthy. Who was the 6th person to reach the North Pole? Who was the 6th person to climb Mt. Everest? No one knows and no one cares.
In Cuomo’s defense, he did qualify his lie by saying Gillum is the first African American nominee for governor in a “major” state. You know, because California, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and Massachusetts are so minor they barely qualify as states. Those places might as well be US territories like American Samoa and the Northern Mariana Islands.
Oh wait, as it turns out those minor states contain around 79 million people, or about a quarter of the entire US population. This is just another way of saying Chris Cuomo is full of shit.
History wasn’t made when Andrew Gillum was nominated by the democrats to run for governor of Florida, unless you consider he might be the first socialist candidate of the state. He also might be the first democratic nominee of a Southern state with no ties to slavery or the KKK. He is however far from the first black guy to run for governor of a “major” state.
