Donald Trump has been hitting Hillary Clinton with accusations that she wants to abolish the 2nd Amendment. The liberal media and Clinton apologists have scrambled to defend Hillary saying she respects gun rights and just wants to implement some “commonsense” “gun safety” rules to keep the guns out of the hands of the bad guys. The problem is, Hillary has said too many times that she wants get rid of private gun ownership, with the latest coming on Friday when her surrogate asserted she doesn’t believe individual Americans have a right to own a gun.
Bloomberg reports that Maya Harris, Clinton’s policy advisor, says Hillary thinks the Supreme Court was wrong in ruling that gun ownership is an individual right and not tied to service in the military. She of course is talking about the DC v. Heller ruling that determined Washington DC’s near complete ban on gun ownership to be unconstitutional.
“Clinton believes Heller was wrongly decided in that cities and states should have the power to craft common sense laws to keep their residents safe, like safe storage laws to prevent toddlers from accessing guns,” said Harris.
DC v. Heller has very little to do with “safe storage” of firearms. It ruled against DC’s laws that banned handgun ownership and required that long guns be stored unloaded and disassembled, rendering them useless for self-defense. What the Supreme Court ruled was that gun ownership for lawful purposes like self-defense was an individual right protected by the Constitution.
The stance by Clinton, the all-but-certain Democratic presidential nominee, carries potentially profound implications for the future of gun rights in the U.S.
If Clinton, a lawyer before she entered politics, becomes president and chooses a nominee who reflects her view, a future Supreme Court could revisit, and potentially overturn, that ruling. Such a scenario could permit state and local governments to take stricter steps to restrict the sale of firearms in attempt to curb gun violence.
Or, if Heller were overturned, suddenly Americans don’t have a right to gun ownership, since that is the basic premise of the decision. Believe it or not, there aren’t many Supreme Court decisions on gun ownership rights. If liberals get rid of Heller, the 2nd Amendment means what ever they want it to mean.
Putting this all together, if Hillary were elected President, she could stack the Supreme Court with liberal justices who would overturn Heller and render the 2nd Amendment useless in protecting our gun ownership rights. In other words, Hillary could and would abolish the 2nd Amendment, just like Trump said she intends to do.
And to prove how f*cking stupid Hillary thinks we all are, after saying through her surrogate that she wants to get rid of the 2nd Amendment, we are given this:
“Along with the vast majority of Americans, Hillary Clinton believes there are common sense steps we can take at the federal level to keep guns out of the hands of criminals while respecting the 2nd Amendment. As both PolitiFact and Factcheck.org recently reported, Donald Trump is peddling falsehoods. Donald Trump’s conspiracy theories are simply his latest attempt to divide the American people and distract from his radical and dangerous ideas, like his promise to mandate that every school in America allow guns in their classrooms,” said Harris.
Are you kidding me? She just said Hillary wants to abolish the 2nd Amendment right to individual gun ownership and then she calls Trump a liar for saying Hillary wants to get rid of the 2nd Amendment!
Make no mistake: Hillary Clinton will take our gun rights away. She has said she will take the 2nd Amendment away from “these extremists” which is how she sees law-abiding gun owners. She has said she will consider an Australian-style gun confiscation. Now she says she will fight to overturn our individual right to gun ownership and self-defense.
There is no ambiguity or nuance here. For once, take her on her word.
