Nothing prepares kids for high school and college like learning the history of sodomy and cross-dressing. Oh wait, upon further reflection that might not be true. In any case the Illinois state senate just passed a law requiring schools, even elementary schools, to teach the LGBT history. This kids can barely read or right, but they damn well better know who invented the glory hole.
This is from Fox News:
The Illinois Senate passed a bill Wednesday that would require public schools in the state to teach lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) history, as well as use inclusive and “non-discriminatory” textbooks.
The bill, which passed with a 34-18 vote, would require “all elementary and high schools to teach a unit studying ‘the role and contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the history of this country and this State,’”
But it’s not so much about teaching kids history as it is indoctrinating them with an alternative lifestyle:
Supporters of the legislation, such as Democratic Sen. Heather Steans, who sponsored the measure, told Fox News that teaching LGBT history in schools is important to “increase compassion and understanding as well as to provide historical role models for LGBT students.”
Really? The goal here is to get kids idolizing gay historical figures?
“This measure is consistent with how Illinois public schools teach children about other marginalized communities and ethnicities, and it is one more step toward offering students a complete and accurate historical perspective,” said Steans.
But what about parents who don’t want their kids learning about this stuff? You can say whatever you want about homosexuality, but when it comes down to it this is something that is defined by sex that many people find offensive and may not want their third-graders hearing about it.
Don’t worry, Steans assures, “it is appropriate for children to learn about LGBT history.”
“This bill is about historical facts,” Steans added.
That seems like the problem, don’t it?
I wonder if this liberal politician would also sponsor a bill requiring children to learn the facts about the Democratic Party’s role in slavery and segregation. Probably not. Those aren’t the kind of facts democrats like people to know about.
The Illinois state senate has 37 democrats and 22 Republicans so this 34-18 vote for the bill could well be along party lines with 7 senators not casting a vote. The measure now heads to the Illinois House which also has a majority of democrats, guaranteeing it will pass. That would just leaves Republican Governor Bruce Rauner, who signs all liberal legislation into law, so this thing is a done deal as far as I can tell.
I can’t help but to feel like there is way more important stuff schools could be teaching kids than gay history. Unless the goal is to turn out mass quantities of gay historians (and that may be the case) this is completely useless. Math and science seems like a far more productive way to prepare students for the real world and success.
