As I have documented, faux grassroots gun control organization Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America has a hard time attracting more than a handful of angry moms to their protests. The reason for this is quite simple: it’s a bullshit organization that doesn’t have any real members. It looks like they have found a way around this inconvenient fact by renting angry moms. It’s a good thing billionaire Micheal Bloomberg is backing this group so they can give the illusion of membership, isn’t it?
On Tuesday the Florida State Senate Judiciary Committee was voting on a bill to strengthen self-defense laws. If there’s one thing anti-gun nuts hate more than guns it is people using them to protect their lives. As they vote was going, there appeared to be a half dozen Moms Demand Action members in the audience, which is a massive MDA turnout BTW, but looks can be deceiving.
This is from Ammoland:
The Committee hearing room was full of women wearing red t-shirts emblazoned on the front with NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “MOMS DEMAND ACTION” logo on the front and the “EVERYTOWN” logo on the back. They piled into the room as a group. Many of them had Florida League of Women Voters buttons pinned on the front of their red t-shirts.
These women didn’t appear to know anything about the bill, the law or the process. It also appeared they were being herded around by representatives of the League of Women Voters who walked around wearing League of Women Voters buttons on their lapels.
When the hearing was over, these t-shirt wearing women were taken outside the building to the plaza area where they had to take off their t-shirts and turn them in by placing them in a plastic Rubbermaid type container.
I can’t say for sure that MDA paid these women to pose as supporters, but it is abundantly clear that none of these women were actually members of the gun control group. This is sad for a couple of reasons. The first being that MDA claims to have millions of members and yet they have to bus in some rent-a-moms. The second being, with Bloomberg’s billions behind MDA, they could at least let these mercenary moms keep the t-shirts. Talk about being a cheap bastard.
MDA founder Shannon Watts counts Facebook “likes” and page views as members of her organization, but that’s not how things work. If she and Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety really had the millions of hardcore members they claim, their rallies wouldn’t look like a couple of childless mothers being completely ignored by everyone walking by. They sure as hell wouldn’t have to pay people to pretend like they care about gun control.
For the record, the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee passed the self-defense bill making MDA’s “protest” a complete waste of time. Luckily they kept the t-shirts so they can distribute them for the next big protest.
