In 1977 a movie called Star Wars hit the theaters. It was about, get ready for it, a war in the stars or space if you will. It’s got the word “war” right there in the title and everything. Since the release of that film, the franchise has spun off another 7 sequels and prequels all bearing the Star Wars moniker. A liberal website, reviewing the latest film, Star Wars: Rogue One, is shocked to learn that the series is about war.
Vox is the dumb liberal website that explains the news to dumber liberals in a dumb and liberally condescending way. When they aren’t making up the news about non-existent bridges in Israel, they are trying to pass off ear protection as rubber bullets fired by cops at Ferguson protesters. With nothing fake to be outraged about, they have turned their shock and awe to the Star Wars movie franchise to rile up the dummies.
This is a real headline on the site:
With shocking bits of information like:
Rogue One is a Star Wars movie with an emphasis on the “war”
The unifying theme of Rogue One is simple: People die in wars. If the Star Wars saga is about a war between freedom and tyranny, then a lot of people are going to die fighting that war. Those on the side of good are going to make questionable decisions. Those on the side of evil are sometimes just doing their jobs but will get their lives snuffed out anyway.
Which is horrifying because:
They die horrible deaths in spaceship crashes. They’re cut down by light sabers. They’re obliterated by giant explosions. They die brutally and nastily and quickly. They die, as most of us do, with unfinished business. In one terrible sequence, whole swaths of people are mowed down by an advancing enemy, as they try desperately to accomplish the one thing they need to do to get the Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance.
As if this review isn’t already insane enough, Vox decides that Star Wars: Rogue One is really about the current political climate in the US. The reviewer says. “the film is politically relevant” to “Donald Trump’s election or even Brexit.”
That general idea — what does it feel like to be crushed? — has led to hopes from some that Rogue One will be a rousing call to arms against the global rise of right wing nationalism. And that reading is certainly easy to make.
An early shot in Rogue One features Stormtroopers patrolling the streets of a city rife with tension between various factions, rolling around in a tank. At various moments, it calls to mind the US occupation of Iraq and police militarization of American cities.
Basically it is this reviewer’s opinion that the bad guys in Star Wars represent a racist oppressive US Government that kills “innocent” Islamic terrorists and tear-gasses Black Lives Matter rioters.
Just for the record, the Empire in the Star Wars universe is a combination of the Roman Empire and the Nazis. The Stormtroopers are modeled after the…well Stormtroopers of the WWII-era German military.
It must absolutely suck being a liberal. With so much outrage bottled up, they literally can’t enjoy anything. Wow, shocker, Star Wars is about war. If this Vox writer had come to grips with this fact 40 years ago when the first movie came out, maybe he wouldn’t be pitching a fit about it now.
