Most major cities have a Martin Luther King Blvd. to let tourists know not to take that exit. Los Angeles has an MLK Blvd. but they want to further warn people of areas to avoid by renaming a ghetto street after former president Barack Obama. While this may seem like an honor, it’s really a pretty racist dog whistle if you think about it. Why not rename a street for Obama in a nice neighborhood? Why name a street after Obama at all? He sucked.
Fox News reports:
A residential street in southwestern Los Angeles will be renamed after former President Barack Obama…
The vote by L.A. City Council comes more than a year after City Council President Herb Wesson proposed renaming the three-and-a-half-mile “Rodeo Road” to “Obama Boulevard” in honor of the former president. Wesson’s proposal noted that Obama held a campaign rally at Rancho Cienega Park on Rodeo Road during his 2008 bid…
Obama spent half his presidency in Los Angeles rubbing elbows with celebrities and fundraising. Does that mean the city is going to rename everything after him? Hell, just start calling it Los Obamales and save some time.
The date of the city council’s approval to rename Rodeo Road coincides with the 55th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream Speech”.
And the significance of this is what? Are they trying to say that Obama was as important to civil rights as MLK? Probably, but the truth of the matter is that Obama actually made race relations much worse in the country with his divisiveness and identity politics.
The area, which is predominantly African-American, already contains streets named after former U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams.
Yeah, but all those guys were white slave owners, amirite? The area of this new Obama street also contains Crenshaw Blvd. which is as ghetto as Los Angeles has to offer. Maybe it’s a funny coincidence, but the black people in this area of the city are no better off after 8 years of Obama in the White House then before he took office. But hey, getting an Obama street is just as good as economic prosperity, decent schools, and safety, right?
LA Mayor Eric Garcetti celebrated this underwhelming honor with a goofy tweet:
It’s official: our City Council has voted to rename Rodeo Road to Obama Boulevard!
— Mayor Eric Garcetti (@MayorOfLA) August 29, 2018
See, I told you LA is doing this to tell tourists: “you will be carjacked if you go down this street.” Well, carjacked if they’re lucky. Again, this seems kind of racist, but what do I know, I’m not a liberal dingbat.
I don’t know how many cross-streets are going to need new street signs, but I do know replacing them with “Obama Blvd.” isn’t free. I guess it’s cool, it’s not like Los Angeles has any problem with crime, homelessness, and crumbling streets that they could have spent this money on instead.
I know my tone is a little negative, but this is actually a time for celebration. Obama finally has a legacy that President Trump can’t undo with an executive order. Unless Trump threatens to withhold federal highway funds until LA changes the street name back, Obama will always have this ghetto street named after him and that’s not nothing.
