Melissa Harris-Perry has a tendency to overreact to things that are really nothing. Recently a man tried to talk to her and she freaked out because she thought he was going to kill her. Keeping with that tenuous hold on reality, she is now refusing to do her show on MSNBC because, as far as I can tell, they want her to report on the news. And this meltdown comes complete with Harris-Perry accusing the network of enslaving her because that’s just how nuts she is.
The Melissa Harris-Perry show is slated to broadcast from South Carolina this weekend because there is this little thing called the democratic primary going on there. Harris Perry however will not be hosting the show that bears her name. In an e-mail sent out to her whacko liberal sympathizers, she explains why:
As you know by now, my name appears on the weekend schedule for MSNBC programming from South Carolina this Saturday and Sunday… However, as of this morning, I do not have any intention of hosting this weekend. Because this is a decision that affects all of you, I wanted to take a moment to explain my reasoning.
Harris-Perry basically complains that her show often gets pre-empted and that the “editorial tone and racial composition of MSNBC’s on-air coverage” has changed dramatically. I guess MSNBC is getting too white and mainstream for her liking.
Here’s where she bitches about having to report on breaking news and current events:
Here is the reality: our show was taken — without comment or discussion or notice — in the midst of an election season. After four years of building an audience, developing a brand, and developing trust with our viewers, we were effectively and utterly silenced. Now, MSNBC would like me to appear for four inconsequential hours to read news that they deem relevant without returning to our team any of the editorial control and authority that makes MHP Show distinctive.
Can you imagine the nerve of a cable news network expecting its on-air personalities to report the news?
And the meltdown is complete when she accuses MSNBC of treating her like a slave:
I will not be used as a tool for their purposes. I am not a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by…MSNBC.
Then she takes a shot at other MSNBC personalities who she considers beneath her:
I have a PhD in political science and have taught American voting and elections at some of the nation’s top universities for nearly two decades, yet I have been deemed less worthy to weigh in than relative novices and certified liars.
I wonder if she’s talking about Chris Matthews and Joe Scarborough because I kind of agree with her on that one.
And finally the terms under which Harris-Perry will return to her show that she in probably contractually obligated to host:
While MSNBC may believe that I am worthless, I know better. I know who I am. I know why MHP Show is unique and valuable. I will not sell short myself or this show. I am not hungry for empty airtime. I care only about substantive, meaningful, and autonomous work. When we can do that, I will return — not a moment earlier.
Here’s the thing: Melissa Harris-Perry is a whacko leftist feminist kook. MSNBC is the liberal cable news network and the only game in town for her. Does she think she’s going to get a show on FOX or CNN? It ain’t going to happen. All she’s doing here is putting herself on the unemployment line for the rest of her life.
Perhaps in her inflated sense of self and warped perception of reality she thinks that there is a huge market for crazy ass social justice warriors. Or that the lowest rated cable news network gives a shit about her even lower rated show.
