An alternate headline could be: California Takes Steps To Run All Companies Out Of State. California just passed a law that says every publicly traded company in the state must have at least one woman on the board or face a heavy financial penalty. There’s not a chance in hell that this law is Constitutional, but California is not a place that cares very much about the law when it comes to pushing a woke progressive leftist agenda.
CNN reports, but don’t worry I have independently confirmed the information so this is some rare real news from the otherwise fake news network:
State legislators passed a bill Wednesday that would require publicly-traded companies headquartered in California to place at least one woman on their board by the end of next year — or face a penalty.
If the bill is signed into law by California governor Jerry Brown, it would be the first state to take such a step.
Show of hands, who thinks Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown won’t sign this bill? This is a done deal.
Unlike some European countries, the United States doesn’t mandate female representation on company boards.
Unlike some European countries, the United States has a Constitution that guarantees everyone equal protection under the law. The same way you can’t discriminate against someone based on race, ethnicity, and gender, you also can’t favor people based on these things, because by its very nature a quota system discriminate against someone who is excluded.
If you are surprised that California only stopped at mandating one woman, don’t worry, the snowball effect is in full effect:
“One is definitely not enough,” said some crazy woman CNN interviewed.
The California legislation would also require companies with five directors to add two women by the end of 2021, and companies with six or more directors to add at least three more women by the end of the same year.
The penalty imposed by this ridiculous legislation is simply insane. A first violation would be a $100,000 fine and a second violation runs $300,000. The money from those fines goes directly to the state so they can administer this law.
I was going to say that wealthy companies could just pay the fine and not worry about hiring an unqualified and incompetent women just to comply with the law, but companies have an easier out. Here’s how the law defines a woman:
“Female” means an individual who self-identifies her gender as a woman, without regard to the individual’s designated sex at birth.
All the companies have to do is have one of the male board members claim he really feels like a woman deep down inside and everything is fine. Finally transgender nonsense has a practical real world application.
I think in reality, all this law will do is force more companies to move out of state. California already has unbelievably high taxes on business, plus so many costly regulations that it doesn’t make any sense to operate in the state. If California is going to start mandating who is allowed to sit on boards and fine companies for non-compliance, these companies are going to go to Texas or some other state that wants the jobs.
