This is how liberals get results. A town in New Jersey that has zero stores that sell firearms wants to ban all gun stores. Right off the bat it seems very successful since they can go: “See, we totally got rid of all the gun stores.” They could achieve a similar level of success by banning intelligent thought since there appears to be none of that either in town.
My Central Jersey reports, actually they are editorializing, on this liberal solution in search of a real problem:
Piscataway’s Township Council has introduced an ordinance that would ban retail sales of guns and ammunition within 1,000 feet of so-called “sensitive areas.”
Piscataway at the moment has no gun shops, but Councilman Steven Cahn said officials want to be proactive, and that a community can at least be prudent about where guns are sold.
The awesome liberal proatctivness comes in when those “sensitive areas” are loosely defined by “everywhere.”
Consider what 1,000 feet from “sensitive areas” means. The township would just be targeting schools and places of worship, for instance, but could include restaurants, bars, parks, day-care centers, bus stops, college campuses and entire residential areas. That 1,000 feet represents more than three football fields. Draw 1,000-foot circles around every spot in town deemed a sensitive area, and that could encompass a substantial portion of the community. Add existing zoning laws that already restrict commercial activities from certain locations, and there may not be many places left in the township that could accommodate a gun shop.
I am 100% sure that was the goal of these leftists gun-hating kooks. It may be Constitutionally sticky to outright ban gun stores, but they can achieve the same thing with insane zoning regulations.
The editorial board fully supports this move and dreams of bigger and better things:
But imagine if neighboring communities adopted similar bans, or perhaps all of Middlesex County. Would the collective effect of those bans reduce the number of guns in circulation? We’d like to think so.
Of course they’d think this stupid zoning plan would make a big difference in crime. All liberals can’t seem to understand that restricting legal gun ownership doesn’t stop criminals from doing bad things. If the goal were to actually stop crime it be directed at the criminals, but all gun control laws target law-abiding people.
Now hang on to your pink pussy hats for some serious editorializing:
As a nation we suffer from a federal government too scared to act on gun control, and a vocal and powerful gun-rights crowd too willing to twist interpretations of the Second Amendment for their own purposes. A more heavily armed society is most certainly not a safer society, and in New Jersey, officials on all levels of government have a responsibility to do whatever they can to counteract federal failures.
1000 Downtrend points to anyone who can find something remotely true in that last paragraph. It’s not cowardice for the federal government to respect the Constitution and the interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is clearly established by the Supreme Court. Also go ahead and ask the unarmed victims of gun crime if they feel safer without a firearm. Oh wait, they can’t answer because they are dead.
Piscataway sounds like what you’d do if you urinated on a feline until it left and that’s not even the dumbest thing about this town.
