I can’t say this comes as much of a surprise. We’ve all been having fun with the hideous amateurish Obama presidential portraits, but there is is some pretty messed up history behind the laughs. Both Obamas chose black artists to paint their portraits because even in this they felt the need to play some identity politics. In the case of Barack’s portrait painter, the artist is marginally famous for painting black women holding decapitated white women’s heads, which he describes as his twist on “kill whitey” whatever the hell that means.
Kehinde Wiley is the artist who painted Barack Obama. As you can see, he’s not much of an artist. He has a bad sense of perspective and oh, look he gave the former president 6 fingers on his left hand:
Before adding digits to Obama and embarrassing the embarrassing legacy of a failed president, Wiley was into painting black women killing white women. Here’s some of his fun artwork:
In a profile with New York Magazine, Wiley gave this explanation for his obsession with served white female heads:
But one already stands out: a tall, elegant black woman in a long blue dress—the canvas is enormous, eight feet by ten feet—calmly staring down the viewer. In one hand, she holds a knife. In the other, a cleanly severed brunette female head. “It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing,” Wiley says.
Oh, so it’s okay to play with the “kill whitey” thing? I actually didn’t realize that was a thing, but Obama’s artist says says it is so it must be. I wonder if it’s just as acceptable to play with the “kill darky” thing. Probably not. I have a feeling that might be kind of racist.
Just so we are all clear on this: Barack Obama personally selected Kehinde Wiley to paint his official portrait knowing full well the artist paints pictures of black women holding the severed heads of white woman while playing with a “kill whitey” motif.
Now, try to imagine if George W. Bush had selected a white artist known for painting white women decapitating black women because he liked to explore the concept of killing blacks. All of a sudden this sounds incredible racist, doesn’t it?
I chose not to use Donald Trump as an example, because no matter who he selects to paint his presidential portrait the left will be screaming “Nazi” until they hyperventilate and pass out. Liberals accuse President Trump of racism with everything he says or does and picking a portrait artist will be no different.
It’s nice to see that even though he’s out of office, Obama hasn’t lost his touch in making everything about race. Only Obama could turn a presidential portrait into a divisive act of identity politics. In reality, Obama’s choice of artist is a great representation of his presidency. The only thing that shocks me about this is that he didn’t have the artist paint him holding Sarah Palin’s bloody severed head.
