Nothing makes Americans feel safer than being on a flight with radical Muslims fresh from a “praise Allah” session, but this is not about keeping Americans safe; it’s about bending over backwards to accommodate a fringe group that doesn’t always have our best interests in mind. The Orlando International Airport (OIA) will reportedly spend a quarter of a million dollars to build a Muslim prayer room.
Orlando International Airport will soon open a Muslim prayer room. The decision came after Emirates airlines announced it will soon be flying out of OIA. Since many that fly the airline are Muslim, OIA will spend $250,000 to build a reflection room where people can pray.
The thing is, Muslims already have a space to pray at OIA:
Currently at OIA, many Muslims pray in public or even in restrooms. There is also a non-denomination chapel where prayer rugs are available.
They already have a room with prayer rugs? What’s the point of dropping this kind of coin to build another space for them to pray in? Also, how much would you freak out if you saw a Muslim praying on the floor of an airport bathroom right before getting on a flight?
With hundreds of new Muslim passengers, the airport wants to accommodate everyone.
With millions of Christian passengers, will the airport also be building a $250,000 Christian prayer room? I checked out a map of the airport and I couldn’t find any evidence of a Christian prayer room, so clearly they are in need of one. Especially since they feel like they need a Muslim prayer room. Far more Christian passengers will pass through this airport than Muslims ever will.
Emirates is a Dubai based airline that flies into scary terrorist hotbeds like Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Sudan. Building this Muslim prayer room seems like a PR move on the airport’s part to appease the Middle East carrier.
This thing is a done deal so the only question remaining is what are they going to call this pricey prayer room? My money is on “The ISIS Station” or maybe “The al Qaeda Lounge.” Perhaps they’ll settle on something simple like “The Death To America Room.”
Okay, I get it. Plenty of Muslims are not terrorists, but enough of them are that this thing is going to scare the shit out of travelers. Try to imagine a family from Iowa that just visited Disney World and are waiting for their flight when a Muslim call to prayer comes over the PA. Suddenly a bunch Muslims get up and head to the prayer room where their religious ritual echoes through the terminal.
Interestingly enough, OIA is not touting the Muslim prayer room construction on their website. I suspect they know there will be outrage over this, but how can they not see the potential problems once it is built?
Remember the outrage over Muslims building a Mosque near Ground Zero in NYC? Same thing here. Building a Muslim anything in a US airport is a bad idea.
