It’s been coming for weeks. Business owners have been boarding up their windows. Governor Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency. Protestors have been promising violence and the police were supposedly prepared for it. Yet, when the grand jury failed to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of thug Michael Brown, the city of Ferguson Missouri erupted in flames, looting, and gunfire and the cops just stood there and watched it all happen.
Though the grand jury had reached its decision early on Monday, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch made the dumb-ass move of waiting until the sun went down to announce that Wilson would not be charged. Soon after, the streets erupted in violence.
The cops, most of whom are St. Louis County officers, attempted to disperse the angry mob with teargas, but were completely overwhelmed. The police barricades were obliterated and the police were pelted with rocks and concrete chunks. At this point the cops seemed to give up trying to restore order and just let the chaos reign.
At least three police cars were torched. At least 15 businesses were set on fire and many more looted. In nearby Dellwood, MO a car dealership was set ablaze. Due to the rampant gunfire, some of which was described as rapid fire, the fire department was pulled out for safety reasons and the structures were left to burn.
An old man was carjacked by “peaceful protestors” and was subsequently run over by his own stolen car. In another nearby city a police officer was shot in the arm. Members of the media covering the mayhem have been attacked by the mob. A CNN reporter was hit in the head by a rock on live TV. A Fox News reporter was assaulted by a thug in a Guy Fawkes mask and the camera was smashed.
This is just a small sampling of what has happened in Ferguson. I’m sure once the smoke settles in the morning there will be much more violence and destruction to report.
The astonishing thing is that law enforcement was supposedly prepared for this. Like I said, a state of emergency had already been declared and the National Guard was put on alert. This was not a spontaneous event that took everyone by surprise. There was advanced notice and still Ferguson burned to the ground. Businesses were looted and private property was lost.
And what of the National Guard that Governor Nixon called in? Well, apparently they are in fallback mode too, protecting the Ferguson Police Headquarters and not much else.
I don’t feel great about being right, but I called this one days ago. I predicted that the police would be so scared of coming off heavy handed that they would let the city burn, and that’s exactly what happened. Rather than crack down on the violence, the cops were more worried about feeding the media’s obsession with a militarized police force. Instead of protecting innocent people and private property, they let the city burn because they were concerned with their image.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not blasting the police for not doing their jobs. I’m sure they are as frustrated as I am over this situation, but their hands have been tied by a democratic governor, leftist activist organizations, and the liberal media.
Even with insurance, many of these destroyed businesses will never recover. The employees of these businesses are now out of work and, let’s face it, this is the sh*ttiest time of year to be unemployed. Lives have been ruined by a gang of lawless losers and the complete lack of a plan to maintain order.
All of this because some POS committed a strong armed robbery and then got shot while trying to kill a police officer.
