On August 6, 1945 a US B-29 bomber dropped a “Little Boy” atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. On August 9, 1945 we dropped a “Fat Man” A-bomb on Nagasaki. 6 days later on August 15, the Japanese surrendered, ending WWII in the Pacific Theater. Meanwhile the Russians were busy killing tens of millions of their own people, but somehow Americans are the immoral ones. The Russian embassy in South Africa is celebrating the dropping of the first atomic bomb, by giving us crap for being worse than…well them.
Here’s a stupid thing that happened today on Twitter:
Today marks 73 years since the inhumane and horrific A-bombing of #Hiroshima – not a military target but a city full of civilians incl women & children. 6 August 1945 will forever remain a tragic date in human history. Such tragedy should never be ignored or forgotten #NeverAgain pic.twitter.com/mIefZbN3Oe

First off, bullshit. Hiroshima was most certainly a military target and here’s Wikipedia with the proof:
At the time of its bombing, Hiroshima was a city of both industrial and military significance. A number of military units were located nearby, the most important of which was the headquarters of Field Marshal Shunroku Hata’s Second General Army, which commanded the defense of all of southern Japan, and was located in Hiroshima Castle. Hata’s command consisted of some 400,000 men, most of whom were on Kyushu where an Allied invasion was correctly anticipated. Also present in Hiroshima were the headquarters of the 59th Army, the 5th Division and the 224th Division, a recently formed mobile unit. The city was defended by five batteries of 7-cm and 8-cm (2.8 and 3.1 inch) anti-aircraft guns of the 3rd Anti-Aircraft Division, including units from the 121st and 122nd Anti-Aircraft Regiments and the 22nd and 45th Separate Anti-Aircraft Battalions. In total, an estimated 40,000 Japanese military personnel were stationed in the city.
Secondly, Japan attacked us at Pearl Harbor and we were at war with them. Dropping a couple of A-bombs on them set them straight and ended the war before tens of thousands more lives were lost.
This tweet from the Russians is especially insulting considering that their barbarism during and after WWII actually makes Hitler look like an amateur. Between 1930-1950 Joseph Stalin murdered anywhere from 15 million to 60 million people. He didn’t use an atomic weapon however, he did it the old fashion way with execution, torture, and forced starvation. Maybe Russia isn’t exactly in the position to be making moral judgements.
This is kind of like those rapey baby-killing liberals scolding conservatives on matters of morality. Or democrats trying to delegitimize the freely-elected President of the United States accusing Republicans of destroying our democracy. They don’t have a leg to stand on.
You can say what you want about the US decision to use nuclear weapons on Japan, but you can’t argue with results. It ended the war and the once savage country of Japan is now all Hello Kitty and cartoon (anime) porn. We should have nuked the USSR while we were at it. Maybe they wouldn’t be the planet’s biggest assholes if we would have vaporized a couple of their cities in 1945.
