Some people, myself included, would say that charging $200 for a pair of sneakers is criminal, but there is no argument that trying to steal them is against the law. A Cincinnati-area teen also felt the price was a little high and tried to get a pair using the armed robbery discount. While trying to get himself a free pair of Air Jordans, he instead got a free toe tag at the morgue.
The deal is, the Air Jordan 11 Retro “Legend Blue” basketball shoes hit the stores over the weekend. For some reason that is beyond me, people flocked to buy up these limited edition sneakers. The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that three teenagers went to the Dayton Mall in Miami Township, OH on Saturday in hopes of getting a pair.
It’s unclear if these teens intended to buy some of these expensive shoes but couldn’t because they were sold out, or if they had robbery on the mind all along. What is painfully evident is they picked the wrong guy to stick up.
The three teens confronted two adults on the sidewalk outside the mall and demanded they turn over the shoes. One of the teens flashed a gun which police later confirmed was a real firearm. However, the teens weren’t the only ones armed. One of the adults was a concealed weapons permit holder.
The potential robbery victim pulled out his carry weapon and fired a single shot into one of the teens killing him. The dead teen was identified as 16-year old Jawaad Jabbar. His two partners in crime have been detained by the police but haven’t formally been charged with anything yet.
Sgt. Joe Phares made the understatement of the year by describing the foiled robbery attempt like this:
“This was a random act of, ‘I want something that person has, and I’m going to take it from him.’ It didn’t go down the way they thought it would.”
The adult shopper who defended himself against the armed robbery has not been identified or charged with a crime. The local news reports that the Mall where this incident took place is a gun-free zone. Lucky for the shopper he chose to ignore this stupid rule or it might have been him lying on a slab at the morgue.
So much for the gun-grabber argument that guns don’t save lives or prevent crime. A gun just kept a man from losing his property and possibly his life in Ohio, and this is something that happens all over the country every day. The media just chooses to ignore defensive gun uses, focusing instead on “racist” police shootings.
These three punk kids with no respect for the law or human life thought they were just going to walk up to some stranger and take something that didn’t belong to them under threat of death. I bet these tough thugs all crapped their pants when the victim turned the tables on them. Scum like this does not expect resistance when they’re preying upon society.
If more people were shot while trying to rob, there would be much less robbery. Criminals are cowards and the last thing they want is for their victims to be armed. Cops are never around when crimes are committed; they show up to draw chalk outlines after the fact. It would be nice if all states recognized that people need to be able to defend themselves and issued concealed weapons permits to anyone who wants one.
