The University of Connecticut thinks it has a problem because black students, particularly males, don’t do well at the institution. Their solution? Heard all of the black males into a single racially segregated dorm. No one can quite say how this will fix things, but everyone at the university is pretty sure you are a racist if you oppose it.
FOX News reports on this thing that is not racist at all:
The school’s main campus in Storrs has launched a program slated for fall in which 40 black male undergraduates live together in on-campus housing. Proponents believe the students can draw on their common experiences and help each other make it to commencement.
The program is called ScHOLA²RS House, which easily qualifies as the worst anagram ever. It stands for: Scholastic House of Leaders who are African American Researchers and Scholars. I guess SHOLWAAARAS wasn’t quite as snappy, plus it has “HOLA” in it like “Hola at ya boy.” Again, completely not racist.
And also completely not segregation according to Vice Provost Sally Reis.
“It’s no more segregated than putting individuals with an interest in entrepreneurship together because they have common interests,” said Reis.
Well, that wouldn’t be segregation unless you divided people up by race, which is what UConn is doing. The people being put into this dorm don’t share a common interest in entrepreneurship, they share a skin color.
“I’ve actually heard people saying, ‘You’re building a dorm for African-American males only?’ We’re not building a separate dorm. It’s not even a separate floor. It’s a portion of a new residence hall,” Reis explained.
Now it makes sense. It’s not segregation because it’s not a whole dorm, just a special area where only black males are allowed to live.
The really cool thing is that UConn is considering expanding this segregation to other races to ensure zero integration on the campus:
Erik Hines, a UConn professor set to serve as faculty advisor to the ScHOLA²RS House students, said that while the only current race-based group was for black males, the administration could add learning communities based on other races, genders or cultures.
“We have all types of learning communities. If they bring forth a proposal to our Office of Programs and Learning Communities they will be considered by our executive director,” said Hines.
What do you want to bet that if a white group of students wants their own dorm that they will be denied and probably get kicked out of school for promoting white supremacy?
For all of you haters out there, Puppetry major Isaac Bloodworth says you are racists. And when a guy that goes to college to major in puppetry talks, you better listen:
“The white portion of the University of Connecticut is probably not ready for it. You have people who are going to go against it because they are just racist and they see this as a form of segregation or that we’re getting better things than they are,” said Bloodworth.
Yeah, white people are so stupid for thinking that you can achieve equality by treating everyone equally. When will they learn that integration requires segregation? Or that to end racism you have treat the races differently?
If UConn really wants to push this along, they should also have separate but equal facilities throughout the campus. They could have special blacks-only bathrooms, water fountains, and cafeterias. It will be like Martin Luther King’s “I Have A Dream” speech come to life.
