When actress Scarlett Johansson announced she would be playing the role of a transgender character in an upcoming movie, the LGTB SJWs went ballistic. How could a cis gender woman play a transgender man, they cried. I think a lot of the outrage was over the fact that these lefty loonies don’t understand what acting is, but they can all rest easy. Bowing to the pressure, Johansson has dropped out of the project.
Johansson was slated to play lead in Rub & Tug, the true story of a person who was born a female but identified as male and who ran a series of message parlors and whore houses. When the LGBTers caught wind of this, they began a campaign of rage and hate, insisting that the role should go to an actual trans person. You know, because acting doesn’t involve pretending to be someone different than in real life.
At first Johansson was defiant saying, “Tell them they can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.” These of course are other actors who have had roles as transgender people. Jared Leto even won an Oscar for his portrayal of a man pretending to be a woman in The Dallas Buyer’s Club.
That defiance is gone however, as The Hollywood Reporter reports that Johansson is backing down:
Scarlett Johansson has dropped out of Rub & Tug, the movie that would have seen her play a transgender man.
“In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project,” said Johansson.
Ethical questions? Is it unethical for an actress to accept a role in a movie? I mean, if it was a snuff movie, yeah, but I’m guessing they won’t actually be murdering anyone in Rub & Tug.
“Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive. I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues,” Johansson continued.
Much like it wasn’t unethical for her to take a role, it wasn’t insensitive for her to point out other actors who played trans characters. This is the the idiocy that happens when people pay any attention to the lunatic fringe.
But hey, the Gaystapo Trans Division can notch another victory for bullying Scarlett Johansson until she quit the project. Now a real trans actor can get the part. Or maybe not.
See, the thing is, Scarlett Johansson is a big star who attracts investors, gets movies green-lit, and puts asses in the seats. Some rando trans person is not going to step into the role and have any kind of studio or investor support. My guess is the project is dead. Congratulations on everyone involved for putting hundreds of people out of a job over the silliness that only certain kinds of actors can play certain kinds of rolls.
