Liberals are once again in a rage and screaming “impeachment” over President Trump’s alleged campaign finance violations. The truth is, Trump broke no laws and hasn’t been convicted or even indicted for anything. Another truth is Barack Obama broke campaign finance laws big time and was given a hefty fine. For some reason back then these same liberals weren’t calling for Obama to be kicked out of office. Once again the “it’s only bad if Trump did it” BS rears its liberal head.
Yesterday President Trump’s ex-lawyer Michael Cohen pled guilty to bank fraud and violating campaign finance laws. That second thing stems from him allegedly making payoffs to porn actress Stormy Daniels and Playboy model Karen Mcdougall on behalf of Trump. The President has denied knowing anything about the payments beforehand, but that’s not really an issue. Even if Trump knew about the payments, so what? He used his own money to pay off some women to keep quite about a personal matter. How does that have anything to do with his campaign and its finances?
If Trump had used campaign contributions to pay hush money to a couple of hos he banged to get them to STFU, then that would be a campaign finance violation. Non-Disclosure Agreements are not illegal and the last time I checked, people including Donald Trump, can spend their own money on whatever they want. This is more nothing-burger hysteria from the left.
On the other hand, Obama actually did commit camping finance violations. Politico reported on this back in 2013:
President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign was fined $375,000 by the Federal Election Commission for campaign reporting violations — one of the largest fees ever levied against a presidential campaign…
The major sticking point for the FEC appeared to be a series of missing 48-hour notices for nearly 1,300 contributions totaling more than $1.8 million — an issue that lawyers familiar with the commission’s work say the FEC takes seriously. The notices must be filed on contributions of $1,000 or more that are received within the 20-day window of Election Day.
More than half of those contributions were transferred from the Obama Victory Fund,a joint committee between the campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
The document outlined other violations, such as erroneous contribution dates on some campaign reports. The Obama campaign was also late returning some contributions that exceeded the legal limit.
So Obama took almost $2 million in illegal campaign contributions and Trump may have paid off a couple of women with his own money? Am I the only one who doesn’t think these two things are the same?
The best part about Obama’s violation is he didn’t even pay the fine off himself:
Sources said the fine resulting from the settlement agreement has been paid, with $230,000 coming from the Obama campaign’s coffers and the remainder from the DNC.
Isn’t paying off a campaign violation fine with campaign funds another campaign violation?
I remember when this happened and I never saw one democrats screeching about Obama’s high crimes and misdemeanors. The liberal media practically ignored this story and certainly there were no liberal activist journalists calling for impeachment. Double-standard much?
