It’s bad enough that ABC cancelled Tim Allen’s hit comedy Last Man Standing because it and the star expressed conservative viewpoints, but now a Tennessee woman has actually lost her job for defending the TV show. This firing is being framed as extreme homophobia and an act of hate but as you will soon see nothing could be further from the truth.
Debbie Odom Massey was the Madison Rivergate Area Chamber of Commerce president until this non-controversy sunk her career. Following ABC’s political decision to cancel Last Man Standing, she wrote this in a now-deleted Facebook post:
I can’t believe that I am supposed to be ok with shows like Grays Anatomy or Nashville or any other show that promotes LGBT blah blah blah..,WHATEVER! Cramming same sex making out into our Homes! But I can’t watch MY FAVORITE show! ‘Last Man Standing’! Talk about discrimination!!
ABC needs to listen to the majority ― not the 2% -Afraid of lawsuit? Maybe we should scream, riot, wine and create law suits against EVERYBODY that doesn’t make us feel good, then we can get our way!! ‘Last Man Standing’ also offered the counter viewpoint…it’s not like you didn’t hear the other side. It is obvious they wish to only present their views and only wish to INDOCTRINATE people. We live in a country of FREE speech, if we believe it we should practice it and not support those who suppress it!
This is hardly homophobic or anti-gay. This woman is merely stating a fact that the networks force liberal and progressive ideas down viewers throats and then cancelled the only show that offered up a little conservatism.
Of course there was outrage.
“I think that comments like that made by organizations that represent communities can have a detrimental effect and I certainly hope that this will be an opportunity for Madison to demonstrate that it is a welcoming diverse community that I am proud to represent,” said Metro Councilwoman Nancy VanReece.
Isn’t it interesting how diversity and inclusion doesn’t include people with traditional conservative values?
“The Facebook post referenced does not reflect the great work they are doing as an organization,” said Nashville Mayor Megan Barry.
What was her biggest crime in this post? That she said, “LGBT blah blah blah”? Is that what is now considered a hate crime?
Apparently so. The Huffington Post reports that Massey is no longer president of the Chamber of Commerce:
On Monday, Massey announced that she was resigned from her position…Colleagues…did not deny the role that the Facebook controversy had played in Massey’s decision.
She was resigned from her position? So she was pressured to leave or in other words, she was fired.
Just once I’d like to see a liberal get fired for saying something horrible. Teachers can drop F-bombs while talking about Trump and anyone on the left is free to make death threats against the President without consequence. Liberal TV host Stephen Colbert made an actual homophobic statement about Trump giving head to Russian president Vladimir Putin and he still has a job.
