A corruption scandal has driven Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh from office following widespread demands for her resignation and now faces an uncertain future.
Following a raid on her home and offices by federal agents, the beleaguered 69-year-old officially stepped down on Thursday in the latest blow to a city that has become a crime-ridden hellhole thanks to years of the ruinous reign of Democrats who despite their failures, continue to be reelected by a public that is suffering as a result of their policies.
Mayor Pugh’s fall from grace was rapid and a stunning blow to her supporters like anti-Trump fanatic Rep. Elijah Cummings who personally endorsed her in her mayoral campaign during which she cynically exploited the racial animosity over the death of Freddie Gray, a young black man who died while in police custody resulting in a series of riots.

Pugh had been on a paid leave of absence ostensibly for health issues that coincided with mounting scrutiny over a shady self-published book deal what reeked of the type of graft that could have been a plotline in HBO’s Baltimore-based crime series The Wire.

Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, whose home and offices were raided by federal agents last week as part of an investigation into her financial dealings, abruptly resigned on Thursday.
Pugh, a Democrat and former state lawmaker, apologized for harming the city’s image in a statement read by her lawyer.
“I am confident that I have left the city in capable hands for the duration of the term to which I was elected,” Pugh, 69, said in her resignation letter. City Council President Bernard “Jack” Young becomes acting mayor.
Pugh’s statement and formal resignation letter were read by attorney Steve Silverman at a news conference outside his Baltimore office. Pugh, who has rarely been seen in public since taking medical leave on April 1, did not attend.
Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Internal Revenue Service searched Pugh’s home and offices on April 25 following a string of investigative stories in the Baltimore Sun newspaper beginning in mid-March about her financial dealings.

It is an inglorious ending for Pugh who had taken advantage of the wave of social justice fanaticism on the left to bolster her own profile.
She prioritized the tearing down of Confederate statues, using taxpayer money to bus students to anti-Trump rallies, renaming parks after Harriet Tubman and banning styrofoam containers instead of focusing on cleaning up her lousy city as the murder rate exploded and residents began fleeing in droves.
Now she’s gone and another Democrat will soon take her place. People will never learn.
