Police in the historic fishing village of Sebastian were dispatched after a domestic dispute between two homosexual men ended up with one nursing a head wound from a novelty fish.
It what may be remembered in local lore as the Big Mouth Billy Bass beat down, the cops arrested 54-year-old Gregory Carney on a domestic battery charge following a quarrel over the popular singing fish replica resulted in bodily harm.
52-year-old Larry Timmerman was smacked in the dome by his lover of 17 years after he became agitated over being teased with Big Mouth Billy which threw in the trash after becoming sufficiently pissed.
The two came to blows after Timmerman confronted Carney over the missing musical fish.
According to the Sebastian Daily “2 Sebastian Men Fight Over ‘Billy the Bass’ Singing Fish”:
One man was arrested Sunday on a charge of battery domestic violence after throwing a “Billy the Bass” singing fish at another individual, according to the Sebastian Police Department.
Gregory Carney, 54, said he was angry with his friend Larry for throwing his Billy the Bass singing fish in the trash, the report said.
Larry told police that the two were arguing on and off all day. He said Gregory went into the den and started to play with a Billy the Bass singing fish to annoy him, according to the arrest affidavit.
“He stated Gregory continued doing this just to aggravate him,” the officer said.
When Gregory left the room, Larry placed the fish in the trash. A few minutes later, Gregory wanted to know where his fish was, police said.
When Larry told him it was in the trash, Gregory retrieved it and threw it across the room, striking him in the head “near his hairline,” according to the report.

Additional detail via The Smoking Gun:
In interviews with Timmerman and Carney, cops determined that the men–who have been domestic partners for 17 years–had been quarreling earlier in the day. At one point, Carney went into the den and began playing with his singing fish. Timmerman said that Carney “continued doing this just to aggravate him.”
After having to endure several Big Mouth Billy Bass performances, Timmerman, 52, “removed the singing fish from the room and placed it in the trash.” When Carney discovered the novelty item was missing from the den, he quizzed Timmerman on its whereabouts.
When Timmerman responded that Billy Bass was now in the trash, Carney became angry. Carney then fished the singing fish from the garbage and threw it at his boyfriend, cops allege. The item struck Timmerman in the head, causing a laceration.
Carney admitted throwing the singing fish, but said that he “did not aim for Larry and struck him in the head on accident.” Carney was subsequently arrested for domestic battery, a misdemeanor, and booked into the county jail. Now free on $500 bond, he is scheduled for a May 15 arraignment.
Timmerman declined medical treatment for his injury.
An arrest affidavit does not indicate whether cops confiscated the Big Mouth Billy Bass as evidence. As seen below, the Big Mouth Billy Bass performs excerpts from the songs “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and “Take Me to the River.”
