The kneecapping of GOP Senate candidate Roy Moore in the Alabama special election was greatly aided by Republican saboteurs led by Mitch McConnell who made it clear that he would rather cede a Senate seat to the Democrats than allow an anti-establishment type to win it.
This would seem to be like cutting off one’s nose to spite his face and McConnell may end up paying dearly if the Dems are able to package the racial and gender resentment that put Doug Jones over the top for national consumption. A loss of Republican control of the Senate would bump McConnell out of his “leadership” position and possibly nudge him into retirement.
But McConnell and the Never Trumpers in the GOP establishment no longer care about holding political power – if they did, they would have fought back against the scurrilous and unproven 38-year-old sexual allegations unleashed against Moore and they would at least have their own president’s back.
This is not about winning, it’s personal and it is a zero-sum game as many “Republicans” joined celebs and the media in celebrating their loss of a critical seat that could have far-reaching implications in terms of the makeup of the Supreme Court.
Here’s a sample, note the vitriol spewed at Steve Bannon:

Bannon is a RINO. His morally inept strategies are unwelcome here. #YoureFired

Steve Bannon is a cancer.
Good people in Alabama were the first dose of chemo.

After Alabama disaster GOP must do right thing and DUMP Steve Bannon. His act is tired, inane and morally vacuous. If we are to Make America Great Again for all Americans, Bannon must go! And go NOW!!

More will be forthcoming although the ones who are really clicking their heels today are McConnell and Paul Ryan.
