When Susan Collins talks, people listen.
For those old enough to remember those old E.F. Hutton commercials from the 1970s it isn’t exactly an exaggeration to make the comparison to Maine’s senior senator.
One of the most telling signs of how corrupt and sick that our system of governance has become in terms of Congress is that some senator from a sparsely populated jerkwater state is able to hold a disproportionate amount of power that was never imbued in them by the vast majority of the country.
So it is with Susan Collins of Maine, a state with a population of a mere 1.3 million including schlockmeister Stephen King and yet the Supreme Court hangs in the balance based largely on her whims.
Collins – a nominal Republican – is far too often seen as a swing vote on some of the most important issues of our time and in many cases, she sides with the Democrats as she did when she joined crotchety Trump hating John McCain and Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski to save Obamacare last summer.
And she is the one who controls the fate of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh in a Senate controlled by Republicans by a razor-thin margin. Senator Collins has already nixed any potential justice who is opposed to Roe v. Wade which has led to intense lobbying by the array of leftist pressure groups that have been waging war on President Trump and who had to have been cheered by her early disqualification of pro-life jurists.
But she has just thrown them a curveball with comments that taken at face value, would seem to show that she is insufficiently opposed to Kavanaugh.

Via The Washington Examiner “Collins on Kavanaugh: ‘Very difficult for anyone argue that he’s not qualified’ for the Supreme Court”:
Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said Tuesday that it is “very difficult for anyone to argue” that Judge Brett Kavanaugh is not qualified to serve on the Supreme Court and replace Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Collins, who will be one of the key votes toward Kavanaugh’s potential confirmation, told reporters at the Capitol that while there are other factors that will play into her decision, the judge is “clearly qualified for the job.”
“Certainly, when you look at the credentials that Judge Kavanaugh brings to the job, it will be very difficult for anyone to argue that he’s not qualified for the job,” Collins said. “He’s clearly qualified for the job, but there are other issues involving judicial temperament and his … judicial philosophy that also will play into my decision.”
But there is a big caveat with Collins and that is that nothing that she says can be taken at face value by someone as two-faced as she is.
Then there’s this:
Trump could have done a lot worse than Brett Kavanaugh, according to Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collinshttps://t.co/xcWbEOwuUp

Murkowski’s state has a population that is only around 730,000 and is another RINO who is able to hold the entire process hostage.
These two – along with whoever is running the dying McCain’s Twitter account – will ultimately decide the balance of the SCOTUS and that is a damning indictment of Congress as a whole.
