This is something that I am proud of. If you have friends who are transgendered (or if you are), then this is good news for you. Facebook Friday announced new gender options. Now, it’s not limited to simply ‘male’ and ‘female.’ And I think that is a good thing.
I have gay friends, and I have transgendered friends. And they are the kindest, most loyal, sweetest friends I’ve ever had. We are always there for each other, and respect each other. I love them like family, and I love to watch via Facebook how they interact with their families. They are very near and dear to my heart.
That said, I have always gone by what the Bible said about marriage, etc. and have voted against gay marriage. However, I am an advocate for people. And if this is something that is a positive move forward for those people, then I am glad for them. On Facebook today, they are shouting “Hooray! It’s about time.”
So when someone signs up for Facebook starting today, they can list that they are “transgender,” “cisgender,” “gender fluid,” “intersex,” or “neither.” There are about 50 new options total that people can pick from on their profile. I think it is a bold move by Facebook to include all of its users, and make them feel accepted and included.
Facebook has made some good—and some bad–moves over the years, but this one is good. I applaud Mark Zuckerberg and his team for doing this; I ‘like’ it very much.
