President Obama is one funny guy. You see, he came up with a clever joke at a fundraiser in New York Wednesday evening.
Obama told a story about a Brooklyn woman who asked what else she could do to help him.
“And I said – ‘move to North Dakota,’” he joked.
As the audience laughed, he continued.
“If I could just get about a million excess votes in Brooklyn out to Nebraska (or) Wyoming, we’d be doing okay – I don’t need 80% of the vote here.”
That might have been hilarious if there wasn’t a decent chance she really wants to move out of New York. If she does, chances are she won’t settle in another blue state.
This study of where Central New Yorkers are moving to found that Arizona, a red state, takes the top prize for out-of-state movers. Florida, a purple state, and red states like Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina also ranked high on the list.
And Sean Hannity has already followed the President’s advice. He’s moving to Florida. He’ll actually be in the majority as about half of residents in the Sunshine State were born in other states versus about a third who were born and raised there. Many have moved from northern and typically Democratic states, most notably New York.
Hopefully, enough of them realize the policies in their home state helped drive them out and reconsider their stances once they experience more freedom and lower taxes in their new homes. But the fact that states like Florida and Virginia are now purple suggests Obama’s party will actually get more votes in red states as New Yorkers flock to them.
