Any parent knows that educating your kids can be expensive. Because Eric Holder and the Obummer administration already reminded us, illegal immigrants are granted a free education. Unfortunately, taxpayers are footing that bill in addition to their kids’ tabs.
All this even though few of the newly enrolled illegal children speak enough English to understand or be understood well enough to learn the material effectively.
Cost estimates for one year of education for these unaccompanied minors have reached $761 million, and that’s only for the 2014-15 school year. That figure does not account for the additional entrants that are still flowing over the border.
Add that amount to the cut-backs school systems have already had to institute due to falling budgets, and you have myriad of unhappy campers, both within school ranks and among parents.
Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) spokesman Bob Dane said,
“We’re not doing American students any favors by dumping in tens of thousands of additional illegal alien children.”
The biggest ‘bills’ are reportedly expected in California, Texas, Florida, and New York.
Liberal immigrant rights groups state that the monetary cost is “a small price to pay” for helping kids in need.
Jorge Baron of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project states,
“We’re one of the wealthiest countries in the world. We should be able to handle this if we focus our energy and some resources and we make sure that kids are treated well, and treated the way we, in America, believe kids should be treated.
