Regular readers and those who pay attention to politics understand that Nancy Pelosi has been leading a party that is continuing to pursue failed policies and ideas. The Democratic party has clearly shown that they are not only incapable of running the country but they also do not even believe in the US Constitution.
Another perfect example of this was shown in a recent press release given by none other than Ms. Pelosi herself. In fact, her argument is that in order to uphold and defend the Constitution (her words were actually ‘protect and defend’) we should actually pass more gun control laws.
Here a snippet from the press release:
“We must uphold our oath to ‘protect and defend’ the constitution and all Americans by expanding background checks and keeping dangerous firearms out of the wrong hands.”
Isn’t that wonderful! Our esteemed minority leader is actually making the argument that we need to defend and uphold the Constitution by directly violating the second Amendment. This is also done to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Aurora, Colorado shooting. Makes sense…commemorate lives lost with a call for the passing of more laws that ensure more innocent lives are lost.
For some of the more discerning readers, you might have noticed that the actual words Pelosi used are not actually part of the Congressional Oath of Office. In fact, they are part of the Presidential Oath of Office. Is Ms. Pelosi saying, perhaps, that it is her responsibility to act as a president?
Then there is this business about Congress enacting stricter gun control laws. One of the Democrats strongest and most pervasive fear is that the American people will actually arm themselves. If we are armed, it becomes much more difficult for the government to take away our freedoms. Plus, some people might actually not take this continuous march of laws lying down and may actually form some type of opposition.
The one incontrovertible fact that Democrats do not want to admit regarding gun violence is that almost all of the crime committed with firearms were done so with guns that were purchased illegally. When we stop and think about this a moment, those who can obtain a gun illegally are going to do so no matter whether there are more stringent laws or background checks, or whatever. It is only the law abiding citizens who will be prevented from, or delayed from obtaining a gun.
Meanwhile, crime and gun violence marches on. Statistics show that gun crime has not declined as a result of all the existing background checks and other gun laws….why should we expect that more will finally do the trick?
