Here we go again with another round of Obama hypocrisy shrouded in double speak. Of course, our feckless leader does at least try this time to make his hypocrisy and double talk sound at least somewhat believable. In fact, if it had not been for his 6 ½ year history of vigorously destroying the careers and lives of a number of journalists back home, you might actually have believed him.
Obama Issues Hypocritical Statement on Press Freedom
Obama is a wonderful teleprompter reader, I will give him that much credit. But only that much. A new ‘holiday’ or day of remembrance came into being over the weekend. It was the first annual International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists. In case you missed it, our wonderful leader was on the ball, issuing a statement. Here is some of what our fearless President said:
“History shows that a free press remains a critical foundation for prosperous, open, and secure societies, allowing citizens to access information and hold their governments accountable…Each and every day, brave journalists make extraordinary risks to bring us stories we otherwise would not hear—exposing corruption, asking tough questions, or bearing witness to the dignity of innocent men, women and children suffering the horrors of war.
In this service to humanity, hundreds of journalists have been killed in the past decade alone, while countless more have been harassed, threatened, imprisoned, and tortured. In the overwhelming majority of these cases, the perpetrators of these crimes against journalists go unpunished.”
Obama also went on to say how governments must act to protect the ability of journalists to speak and write freely. It is certainly a great argument in favor of freedom of the press and that we need to end a lot of the impediments that have been imposed on a truly free press.
Obama The Most Anti-Press President in History
Our President should know all about this since he is certainly no lover of a free press. Or maybe Obama really meant that there should be a free press everywhere EXCEPT the US? Or perhaps a free press is fine and dandy as long as they don’t fetter what he wants to do?
There have been (and continue to be) tons of reports that testify to Obama being the most anti-free press President in the history of our nation. This includes even media outlets like the New York Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today, papers and media who usually come down on the side of the liberal Democrat in charge. Plus, Obama has used the Espionage Act to prosecute more sources than any other US President. His Department of Justice has monitored the phones and emails of dozens of Associated Press reporters and even named Fox News’ Chief Washington Correspondent James Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator during a leak investigation.
Just in case you need further convincing of the hypocrisy of Obama, consider the following. The US is currently listed number 46th on the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index. That is behind Botswana and Ghana, who have never been known to be very friendly to reporters. This is what we get for voting for Hope and Change.
What do YOU think? Is it irritating just how hypocritical Obama really is? Why does he have such animosity towards a truly free press? What can be done to hep restore some of the freedom journalists seem to have lost during the Obama years?
