One of the most fundamental principles to our democracy is that of a free press. This is something which our Founding Fathers all understood intimately and worked very hard to enshrine in our concept of government. This fundamental principle is one of the few things that keeps such a representative government actually honest.
These same Founding Fathers are probably rolling over in their graves today, seeing the condition of our press and supposedly democratic government now. It seems that instead of investigating, calling the government to task for their failings, and actually reporting, the press is more concerned about retaining their access to the Obama White House.
This is perhaps the main reason we do not see more critical reporting about the scandals in the Obama Administration by the White House Press corps. They are simply afraid of losing access since they have seen this occur time and again already. CNN is a perfect example of this trend. Sure, they have pretty much been a leftist organization right from the beginning, but they did have more or less honest reporting at times. Now, they are basically a big joke, and everyone in the business knows this.
In fact, a number of CNN reporters have recently confessed that they are afraid to question the White House specifically about Beghazi because Obama will literally cut out reporters who focus on this story. Shameful.
Obama has apparently taken his cue for this from Hollywood. It is a well-known fact that movie stars in Hollywood will not grant access to those reporters and media outlets that do not write or report favorably about them. Once again, sad but true. The end result of this is that there is no honest reporting coming out of Hollywood these days. This has likely been obvious to most everyone for quite some time.
Now that Obama is doing the same thing, how long will it be before there is no longer any honest reporting coming out of the White House Press corps? Perhaps we are at that point already? It almost seems like there is a ‘good old boys’ network in Washington these days. Perhaps there always has been, but it is becoming so clear now that this fact simply cannot be hidden any more.
Lest you think this is just more Obama mud-slinging, lets look a bit deeper into this. There have been a few honest reporters who dared to dig deeper into certain events that might have made the administration look less than the shiny image they want to present. In just the last few months we have discovered that the NSA was bugging the Associated Press (I guess they figured since they were already collecting all of our phone and internet data, why extend it a bit to the press as well!), harassing Fox reporter James Rosen, and maybe even interfering with CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson for investigating a gun running scandal known as Fast and Furious. Oh, Sharyl also was daring to look into the Benghazi situation as well.
The only good thing that can possibly come out of this is that maybe the press will start to wake up. Maybe they will begin to realize that Obama has lost all respect for them and will now stop at nothing to assure they do his total bidding. For that matter, maybe other people will also wake up and start to see the level of hypocrisy this administration is truly engaged in.
