The Obama Administration has extended “racial profiling” restrictions to cover religion, sexual orientation, gender identity and national origin.
And while lefties are hailing this as a victory for civil rights, the truth is it eliminates one of the best tools law enforcement has in fighting crime: Discretion.
If most domestic terrorists are white males from Arizona, shouldn’t they be the subject of more scrutiny? Not in Obama’s America? And if most internet scammers are Nigerians? Nope. Transgender women hanging out on Washington’s National Mall might be prostitutes? Stop that!
A dozen Latino men in the back of a pickup truck driving through Colorado? Is it possible they’re illegal aliens? Don’t assume!
The Christmas gift this year for all these criminals is a pair of handcuffs on federal law enforcement.
New guidelines by outgoing Attorney General Eric Holder ban profiling of all these groups. Effectively, what that means is the federal officer can’t stop the pickup truck just because they might be illegals. He can’t ask questions of that herd of trannys standing by the Lincoln Memorial because he thinks they might be hookers. He needs another reason to stop or approach them.
I lived in St. George, Utah, for a while. It’s a very white and very Mormon town. Residents would call the police if they saw a black man simply walking down the street.
By and large, the police would ignore these calls, as they should. Because the police used discretion.
Intuition, discretion and an officer’s “hunch” are some of the best tools we have in fighting crime. I’d much rather trust the officers in the field to decide whom to stop and question than Eric Holder or Barack Obama.
