In the wake of SCOTUS’s decision on same-sex marriage, Ron Paul offered his take on the historic ruling which he called a “defeat for the Constitution.”
“All of a sudden same-sex marriage is a right… declared really by one individual in the Supreme Court,” Ron Paul said, before delving into the question of whether or not there can be a so-called “right” to gay marriage or not and if the government should be licensing marriage at all.
He also said that the whole thing could have been prevented – not by SCOTUS interfering and forcibly declaring gay people have the ‘right’ by marriage – but by the government ceasing to interfere in the marriage of everyone.
Instead of micro-managing marriage and declaring that gay people have the “right” to marry, Paul argued, the solution is to stop the issuing of licenses altogether and allow people to do what they want.
