When news broke this week that President Donald Trump allegedly informed then-FBI Director James Comey earlier this year that he hoped the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn would be dropped, the media jumped into overdrive.
But when former President Barack Hussein Obama signaled to the FBI and the Justice Department last year that he preferred former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton not be charged with a crime, they said nothing.
Cue National Review columnist Andrew C. McCarthy:
On April 10, 2016, President Obama publicly stated that Hillary Clinton had shown “carelessness” in using a private e-mail server to handle classified information, but he insisted that she had not intended to endanger national security (which is not an element of the relevant criminal statute). The president acknowledged that classified information had been transmitted via Secretary Clinton’s server, but he suggested that, in the greater scheme of things, its importance had been vastly overstated.
A couple months later, Comey dropped the case against Clinton and cited the exact same excuses as Obama, stating “that Clinton had been ‘extremely careless’ in using a private email server to handle classified information” but that “she had not intended to endanger national security,” according to McCarthy.
Speaking Wednesday on his radio show, conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh broke down the contrast between Trump’s actions and Obama’s actions like this: What the media claim Trump did “Obama actually did with Hillary Clinton.”
“If you think back to April 2016, there was no way they were ever gonna have Hillary Clinton indicted,” he said. “Obama ran the DOJ, and he was running Loretta Lynch, and Obama was running Comey, and there was no way Hillary was ever gonna be indicted. You know it and I know it. But they used the fact that the FBI had ostensibly done a thorough investigation in order to clear her.”
Suppose for the sake of argument that Trump really did obstruct justice by sharing his sentiments about Flynn with Comey. The only difference between his obstruction and that of Obama would be that the latter’s led to tangible results, as all potential charges against Clinton were scrapped, despite evidence demonstrating that she had indeed violated the law.
Moreover, the evidence against Flynn and other Trump associates happens to be significantly thinner than the treasure trove of incriminating emails and files pertaining to Clinton’s crimes.
Yet a special counsel has been assigned by the Trump administration to further investigate the former, whereas the allegations against Clinton were wholly ignored by the Obama administration.
You know, liberal media charlatans often accuse us conservatives of living in an “alternative university” devoid of reason, logic and facts.
Yet it takes nothing more than a cursory comparison between how they reacted to Obama’s actions and how they have been behaving in response to Trump to see clearly that the only ones who stubbornly refuse to acknowledge reality are them.
