British Muslims got jokes. Who knew!?
Qasim Rashid, a British Muslim and human rights activist, made the case in a column Sunday for The U.K. Independent that the key to stopping sexual abuse against women lies in Islamic teachings — namely those of the Prophet Mohammed.
“[T]he Prophet Muhammad by example demonstrated that the burden of modesty, respect, and combating abuse of women rests on men,” he wrote.
“Indeed, men must take the lead in stopping such sexual abuse. After all, while the Quran obliges women to dress modestly as a covenant with God, Islam prescribes no punishment whatsoever for women who choose to dress otherwise.”
“On the contrary, on numerous occasions Prophet Muhammad punished an accused rapist on the testimony of the rape survivor alone,” Rashid continued.
“In this environment of gender equity, women in Islam rise to the rank of legal scholars, warriors, entrepreneurs, and philanthropists while lovingly embracing identities as mothers and housewives.”
Women in Saudi Arabia, one of the most Islamic nations on Earth, just earned the right to drive less than a month ago, you retard.
“Weinstein is a symptom of the greater disease of arrogance, unaccountability, societal apathy, and from men who knew of the abuse but did nothing,” Rashid added. “Islam and Prophet Muhammad provide a practical solution.”
Besides taking issue with this guy’s belief that every man is responsible for stopping the sexual abuse committed by other men — I’m a political writer, not a damn SVU officer — I also dislike his bit about “men who knew of the abuse but did nothing.” What about the litany of women who knew about Weinstein’s abuse but did nothing? Hmm?
But the most troubling aspect to Rashid’s piece is his attempt to make the Prophet Mohammed a role model for men seeking to stop sexual abuse.
Here’s a sample of how the denizens of Twitter reacted to the idea:
https://t.co/wCduuepO0Y This is totally disgusting. Mohammed WAS a rapist. The fact that he punished a rapist doesn't mean anything.

Mohammed married a six-year-old.
